The Sony Alpha SLT-A99 II SLR combines the best of Sony's latest digital photography inventions, including a new Hybrid Phase Detection AF system, with exclusive Sony A-mount features including Translucent Mirror Technology (TMT). This has resulted in an extremely professional camera with a lot to offer, especially for sports and wildlife photographers.
The backlit full-frame 42.4 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor is made of a seamless on-chip design. The sensor allows fast reading of large amounts of data and, moreover, is efficient with light. The net result is a very high sensitivity with low noise, wide dynamic range and resolution of 42,4MP with an ISO range of 100-25600 which is expandable up to ISO 50-102400. A99 II is designed without an optical low-pass filter, allowing you to capture the finest natural details with unparalleled depth and realism.
Low light is no problem for the A99 II. The precision AF system works up to exposure levels of EV-4, where most other cameras are struggling. With the A99 II, Sony proves is still an excellent choice for professional photographers.

Innovative autofocus
The newly developed AF system with phase detection is capable of 'full-time AF', and is the first application of 4D FOCUS in the full-frame A-series. The Hybrid Phase Detection AF system is made possible by the combination of a precision 79-point specific AF-sensor with phase detection and 399 image AF points with phase detection. This results in a hybrid design with 79 AF junctions. These junctions provide accurate autofocus performance and advanced methods to capture fast-moving objects.
Fast and accurate
The data stream from the A99 II is innovated to enable high resolution and continuous shooting at a high frame rate. A new LSI on the front cooperates with the image sensor, the BIONZ X image processor and a newly designed shutter unit for continuous shooting of up to 12fps with AF / AE Tracking. Here, the 42.4 MP can be optimally utilized. The result is an ultrafast camera that provides detail-rich images even with fast-moving objects and in low light.
Internal image stabilization with 5 axes
Building on the success of the A7 II series cameras, Sony has developed a new internal image stabilization system with 5 axes for A-mount cameras. The A99 II is the first with this system. Besides inclined and twisting movements that often occur at longer focal lengths, this system also detects and compensates blur by shifting the X and Y axes for close-ups and blurring that occurs in still images and movies recorded at night. The newly implemented, highly accurate gyro sensors detect the slightest movement of the camera that can cause blurring.
Design and Operation
The new model is 8% smaller than the original A99 and features a newly designed grip, a magnesium-alloy, dual SD card slot and other improvements for better grip and easier operation. All the main buttons and dials are sealed and the cover of the media opening and the edges of the housing are provided with a tongue-and-groove connection. The result is a dust- and moisture-resistant housing which also makes for good performance under difficult shooting conditions.
