This L-series lens is characterized by a sophisticated optical design that contains a glass-shaped aspheric element, which reduces spherical aberrations and deformities to enhance sharpness and clarity. Individual elements also have an Air Sphere Coating (ASC) to suppress lens flare and hosting for more contrast and color accuracy in backlit situations.
In addition to optical properties, this lens also features a four-stop optical image stabilization system that minimizes camera movements for sharper photos when shooting from hand. A ring-type ultrasonic motor (USM) provides fast and accurate autofocus, along with full-time manual focus for more accurate control. Additionally, this 85mm f / 1.4, like all L-series lenses, has a dust and weather-proof construction so it can be used in heavy conditions.
