The Leica Macro-Elmar-M 1:4 / 90mm is a powerful telephoto lens. Its medium focal length is especially suitable for portraits in which the persons present themselves photogenic and clearly differentiate from the background. In travel photography is an indispensable companion for detail views, such as landscapes. In reportage photography discreet recordings can be made from a slightly greater distance.
As a retractable construction it forms, with only 41mm in length when retracted, a distinct alternative to other compact 90mm Leica M lenses. This is mainly because the supplied lens hood, for storage, can be placed the other way round.
The picture quality is about the entire field extremely well and can be compared with the quality of the already legendary Leica APO-Macro-Elmarit-R (100/2.8). The lens provides already its optimal performance at aperture 4.
